NOMIS Distinguished Scientist Tony Wyss-Coray has, together with a team of researchers from Stanford Medicine, UCSF Medical School and the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, published a Tabula Muris, a single-cell atlas of mouse cell types and their gene expression patterns containing nearly 100,000 cells from 20 organs and tissues. The research behind the compendium is described in the Nature article “Single-cell transcriptomics of 20 mouse organs creates a Tabula Muris.”
The data represent a new resource for cell biology, reveal gene expression in poorly characterized cell populations and enable the direct and controlled comparison of gene expression in cell types that are shared between tissues, such as T lymphocytes and endothelial cells from different anatomical locations. The open-source annotated dataset could lead to further insights that have the potential to improve treatment therapies in human disease.
NOMIS is supporting Wyss-Coray’s continued research into identifying the circulatory factors that influence aging and using those factors to rejuvenate the aging or degenerated brain.
