NOMIS Awardee and James D. Wolfensohn Professor Didier Fassin and past Distinguished Visiting Professor Axel Honneth (2018–19) are the editors of Crisis Under Critique: How People Assess, Transform, and Respond to Critical Situations. The book presents a new perspective on the notion of crisis, examining “how people experience, interpret, and contribute to the making of and the response to critical situations.”
Written by past Members in the School of Social Science from the 2018–19 academic year, the collection of essays span five continents and various disciplines, including philosophy, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, and economics.
The editors contributed their own essays: Fassin, writing on “Conspiracy theories as Ambiguous Critique of Crisis”; and Honneth, a piece titled “The Invisible Rebellion: Working People Under the New Capitalist Economy.”
The book is part of the series New Directions in Critical Theory from Columbia University Press.
