Wolfram Pichler is a professor at the department of art history of the University of Vienna (Austria).

After his studies of art history and philosophy in Vienna and Munich, Pichler received his doctoral degree in 1999 from the University of Vienna. He was visiting fellow at the Graduate School of Arts and Science at Harvard University (Cambridge, US) in 2000, postdoctoral scholar at the Kunst Historisches Institut in Florence (Max-Planck Institut) in 2003/4, Senior Fellow at the IKKM in Weimar 2012, Professeur invité at the EHESS in Paris and Getty Scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles (both in 2013) as well as Mercator Fellow of the DFG in 2017.

Picher’s research focuses on picture theory; theory and​ history of drawing; European art since 1800.
